A Fun Rally For All
X BRITAIN RALLY 2023
The Reason
My name is Noel Robertson and I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease on the 26th April 2022. With a load of “Positive Mental Attitude”, the support of our consultant and the amazing charity base organisation, Parkinson’s UK, my wife and I decided to get out and tour this beautiful country called Britain. This is THE REASON why I have designed this Fun Rally, to encourage you to do the same.
It is really important to me to give back to this remarkable organisation, which is why I am donating the proceeds of your £50 entrance fee to support the fantastic work done by Parkinson’s UK.
In addition, I would appreciate it if you would support us by spreading the word by:
• Inviting your friends to join us and by posting the link to our website xbritainrally.co.uk and our 2023 X Britain Rally Facebook Group on your social media pages.
• Asking your local car, bike, campervan, or social club to support us by posting this link on their Clubs Social Media pages and websites.

How the Rally Works
The first thing that I want to highlight is that this Event is designed to be a FUN Rally and not an overnight endurance challenge with loads of rules nor a navigational nightmare.
There are only 3 Rules that we encourage you to adhere to, and these are:
1. Be Safe
2. Have loads of FUN
3. Support the Local Industry (Pubs, Cafes, B&Bs & Campsites)
THIS IS HOW THE RALLY WORKS:
• Downloadable the PDF Entry form either from the xbritainrally.co.uk website or from the 2023 X Britain Rally Facebook Group. Transfer your £50 entry fee and complete the entry form then email back, as an attachment to xbritainrally@gmail.com before the Rally Start Date of the 1st June 2023.
• On the 1st June 2023 you will be posted out a X Britain Rally T-Shirt and receive a “Welcome Pack email” which will include a PDF copy of the 2023 X Britain Rally Waypoint sheet as well as link to all 50 of the 2023 X Britain Rally Waypoints, which you can download & save to what3words on your mobile device. You have the choice of using either the PDF hard copy (Old School) or the downloadable what3words link (Techy) on your mobile device, or both.
• Familiarise yourself with what3words by visiting the What3Words Tutorials below to make sure you have downloaded the waht3words app and are up to speed with how the what3words app works.
• Your 2023 X Britain Rally starts and finishes at your front door, so you need to decide on how many Waypoints you are plan on visiting and in what order.
• Using what3words on your mobile device and either the PDF copy of the 2023 X Britain Rally Waypoint sheet or the what3words downloadable link to all 50 of the 2023 X Britain Rally Waypoints, find where these Waypoints are located in Britain.
• Number these locations in the order you intend to visit them on your saved 2023 X Britain Rally Waypoint list in the what3words app on your mobile device and/or on your PDF copy of the 2023 X Britain Rally Waypoint list.
• That’s the biggest part of your challenge over. Now you are now ready to leave on Your 2023 X Britain Rally.
• Please take a photo of you and your vehicle at each Waypoint using the what3words Photo Mode, proudly displaying your X Britain T-Shirt and post these photos onto our 2023 X Britain Rally Facebook Group page for all to see.
• Once you have completed Your X Britain Rally, email a copy of the 2023 X Britain Rally Waypoint sheet back as an attachment to xbritainrally@gmail.com, indicating in the tick box which Waypoints you have visited.
• This needs to reach us by the Closing Date of 31st November 2023 to qualify for your chosen Award.
• We will post your “2023 X Britain Rally Certificate” proudly displaying the level of award you have achieved and a message thanking you for Supporting us in raising valuable funds for Parkinson’s UK.
In the spirit of the event, which is designed to raise money for the Charity Parkinson’s UK, we would strongly discourage you from publishing or sharing in any way the 2023 X Britain Rally Waypoint reference document with anybody who has not entered the Rally before the closing date, which is 31st November 2023.
Awards
The Awards will be:
1. Platinum Award for all 50 Waypoints across all 4 Countries
2. Gold Award for 30 Waypoints across any 3 Countries or England plus 1 other Country
3. Silver Award for 20 Waypoints across any 2 countries or England only
4. Bronze Award for 10 Waypoints across any 1 Countries
Protests
There will be no protests of the results because YOU will be ticking the Waypoints visited on your X Britain Rally Waypoint sheet, along with your What3Words photos posted on the 2023 X Britain Rally Facebook Group.
Remember, it’s a FUN Rally and bear in mind these words spoken by Sophocles:

Awards
The Awards will be:

INSURANCE
Some Motor vehicle Insurance companies suggest that you will not be covered whilst competing in a “Rally”.
The Oxford English Dictionary’s definition of a Rally is, “a long-distance race for motor vehicles over public roads or rough terrain, typically in several stages” or “a mass meeting of people making a political protest or showing support for a cause”.
The 2023 X Britain Rally is neither of these, however it might be a good idea for you to check with your Vehicle Insurance company before entering the 2023 X Britain Rally. We would class this Fun Rally as more of a “Self-Guided Fun Tour”.

USEFUL HINTS & TIPS
• Take advantage of the learning how to use the What3Words App Navigation mode and Photo Mode by checking out their Tutorial before starting your X Britain Rally.
• Set your navigation devise to avoid motorways as much as possible to take full advantage of the scenery and to enjoy the country roads.
• Don’t forget to book your accommodation for your trip and, where possible to support the local industry B&B’s, Independent Hotels, local pubs & Café’s.
• Post your photos on our 2023 X Britain Rally Facebook Group page
Once you have your Waypoints listed and numbered appropriately and have downloaded the What3Words App onto your Mobile device, your X Britain Rally is ready to go.

WHAT3WORDS TUTORIALS
We’re using what3words addresses for the waypoints on this Rally so that you’ll know exactly where to stop and how to get there. You’ll be able to take a photo and add a what3words address sticker to show that you’ve visited that Waypoint – follow these easy steps:
NB: If you are only using the PDF copy of the what3words reference points then you need only pay attention to step 1 & 4 below.
1. Download the free what3words app
a) Click the link or search for it wherever you get your apps!)
b) Familiarise yourself with how to use the what3words app using this help page. There are also loads of YouTube “How to” help videos on what3words.
2. Using your mobile device, tap the link to the list of what3words addresses you received in your emailed welcome pack, which will open in the what3words app
2.1. Tips:
2.2. You can rearrange the order of the list to display the list in accordance with the order you would like to complete the stops.
a) Open the 2023 X Britain Rally list.
b) Click the 3 dots to the right of the address and select “Edit Label”.
c) Type the stop number you would like to assign this what3words address to on the left of the Label ( eg.1. England) and repeat this step for each stop.
d) Tap the three dots in the top right-hand corner and selecting “Sort A-Z”.
2.3. Once you have opened the list, you can find it again by following these steps:
a) Open the what3words app.
b) Tap the three lines in the top left-hand corner and select “Saved locations”.
c) Select the list called 2023 X Britain Rally
3. Navigate to a what3words address from the 2023 X Britain Rally list.
a) Select by tapping the line number you will next be visiting.
b) Tap navigate and select your preferred mapping tool for guidance to that exact location.
c) Check to make sure that you are happy with the route suggested and tap start.
4. Once you arrive at the destination, take a picture and add a sticker with the what3words address from the what3words app.
a) Open the what3words app.
b) Tap the three lines in the top left-hand corner and select “Photo mode”.
c) Snap a photo.
d) Select the correct square that the photo was taken in (it should be the what3words address you navigated to!) and press continue.
e) Click the Share icon in the bottom right and share the image to our X Britain Rally Facebook Group page.
